INTEGRATIVE PSYCHIATRY
Integrative Psychiatry is a functional perspective that looks at each person’s wellness through a holistic lens. Using core principles of functional medicine, functional psychiatry considers how nutrition, hormones, and environmental stressors impact one’s mental and physical health. At Lupine Mental Health, Sue uses a “functional” psychiatry perspective to create a personalized approach to each client’s mental health care that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of mental health conditions, rather than solely managing symptoms. The goal of integrating psychiatry with a functional approach is to assess the body as a whole and to restore balance across systems. For individuals dealing with conditions such as depression or anxiety, functional psychiatry offers a personalized and integrative approach to healing.
Integrative psychiatry uses targeted testing is used to identify deficiencies, imbalances, or triggers contributing to mental health issues. Taking a holistic view of our health includes evaluating factors such as:
Nutritional deficiencies
Hormonal imbalances
Environmental stressors
Inflammation
Gut health
After testing, each client gets a personalized care plan that not only manages but also potentially resolves mental health conditions by addressing these core issues. Some clients may be able to stop medications once core issues are resolved while others may opt to reduce dosing of their medications to alleviate unwanted side effects from their medications.
